Welcome!
Standing at the door to the classroom at the start of an English lesson, my students ask,
“What are we doing today?”
They have come prepared to ‘wonder’ about what they will read, write, learn, do, create, discuss, argue and reflect upon, before they even cross the threshold. I’m looking for ways to keep this sense of wonder alive; to keep it growing.
This site has been created as a doorway to my journey into Inquiry Learning, as a subject for my Master of Education (Teacher Librarian) through the Queensland University of Technology.
Working as a high school teacher for the past 16 years, I’ve experienced and explored activities that foster the inquiry process through subjects such as English, Drama, History and Geography. I’ve witnessed the motivation, persistence and incredible sense of accomplishment that accompanies deep learning when students authentically engage in a project that is ‘theirs’.
Now I’m preparing for the opportunity to walk through a new door - and into the school library. As part of my preparation, I welcome the opportunity to further explore the practice of Inquiry Learning, by honing my knowledge, deepening my learning, and exploring how I can not only deliver quality experiences myself, but how I can best support and collaborate with classroom teachers in the role of a teacher-librarian.
I’m ready to walk through the first door.
